THE IMAGES ABOVE ARE COLLECTED FROM MY STUDENTS WORK ACROSS A WIDE VARIETY OF COURSES AND SEVERAL DISTINGUISHED INSTITUTIONS.
I BEGAN MY TEACHING CAREER AT AN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT THE GLORIA PARKS COMMUNITY CENTER IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK. I STARTED THE PROGRAM AFTER I HAD READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT HOW CHESS HAD NUMEROUS BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN AND HOW IT HELPED THEM TO DEVELOP DEEP THINKING ABILITIES AT AN EARLY AGE. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE TO SEE THGE ENTHUSIASM AND HAPPINESS THAT TEACHING THE CHILDREN HAD HAD ON THEM. IT SEEMED THAT EACH WEEK THERE WERE MORE AND MORE CHILDREN COMING TO PLAY AND LEARN ABOUT CHESS.IT IS A DEEPLY REWARDING AND MEANINGFUL ENDEAVOR TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE ADVANCE TOWARDS THEIR GOALS AND I FELT I HAD FOUND SOMETHING I COULD DO FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.
SHORTLY AFTER THAT, WHILE WORKING ON MY MASTERS DEGREE IN ARCHITECTURE, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME THE GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT FOR THE STRUCTURES 1, 2, AND 3 SEQUENCE AT S.U.N.Y. BUFFALO, SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, UNDER PROFESSOR SHAHIN VASSIGH. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM WORKING WITH PROFESSOR VASSIGH ABOUT CREATING EXCITING AND CHALLENGING ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS FOR THE STUDENTS TO WORK ON. I KNEW FOR CERTAIN THAT I LOVED TEACHING AND HOPED I WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE
MY LOVE FOR TEACHING HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE AND IT IS ONE OF THE MOST MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD. I HAVE TAUGHT 112 COURSES COURSES OVER 39 SEMESTERS AT 4 DISTINGUISHED INSTITUTIONS. MY STUDENTS HAVE WON AWARDS YEAR AFTER YEAR FOR THEIR WORK AND I AM SO PROUD TO HAVE HELPED EACH OF THEM MOVE IN THE DIRECTION OF THEIR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS. I HAVE CONSISTENTLY, SEMESTER AFTER SEMESTER, YEAR AFTER YEAR BEEN THE HIGHEST RATED OR AMONG THE HIGHEST RATED PROFESSORS IN MY DEPARTMENT AND FREQUENTLY ACROSS DEPARTMENTS. I ALSO HAVE MANY YEARS OF COURSE EVALUATIONS THAT I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO REVIEW WITH YOU. I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF THEM AS THEY ARE A TESTAMENT TO MY COMMITMENT TO TEACHING AND THE ADVANCEMENT OF DESIGN.
